Kimathi Kamencu is a Kenyan advocate of 15 years post-admission standing. He is the partner in charge of Corporate/Commercial and Property law at Musyimi & Company.

He has broad experience in the areas of corporate reorganisations, telecommunications and financial services law. The work he handles includes transaction structuring, conduct of legal audits and contract negotiation. He is also actively involved in drafting and reviewing laws/regulations within the financial services sector and advising clients on existing legal provisions in the financial services sector. Kimathi’s expertise also extends to advice on labour-related matters and in this regard, he provides counsel to various embassies and international organisations.

In the area of property law, Kimathi is involved in ordinary property transactions (transfer of interests and perfection of securities) and in emerging areas that concern property law including the concern property law including the establishment of Real Estate Investment Trusts. He acts for several companies that are involved in development projects and also for companies involved in the property advisory sector.

  • Provision of legal support for review of Credit Bureau Regulations to cater for views of the microfinance industry
  • Advisory work in respect of operational and labour law contracts for a taxi-hailing service company
  • Preparation of loan documentation concerning investment in a company involved in the provision of solar energy solutions
  • Lead counsel for equity investment in a real estate development in Kigali.
  • Working with several banks (as a member of the panel) in the area of security perfection
  • Provision of legal due diligence/legal audit services to a microfinance (credit only) institution
  • Provision of drafting and advocacy services in respect of regulations for the credit-only microfinance industry
  • Legal advisory and document preparation for private bond issues within the East African region
  • Establishment of real estate investment trusts (both licensed and non-licensed)
