Key Practice Areas

We advise and encourage our clients to ensure that their families and dependents are catered for after they pass away. This can be done through succession planning which includes drafting of wills or setting up trusts.  We also offer civic education to institutions on succession planning and its benefits.

Losing a loved one is a very difficult and pivotal moment in one’s life. The family is required to initiate succession proceedings if the deceased has property in his/her name. We walk with our clients through the succession journey and offer expert legal advice on the best way to distribute and settle the estate of the deceased. Broadly this is dependent on whether the deceased died testate (having made a will) or intestate (not having made a will).

We apply our expertise in negotiation and mediation to ensure that the estate is distributed fairly among all the existing beneficiaries.

As family lawyers, we have the conviction that the stability of a family is crucial for the stability of the society. We understand, however, that certain circumstances lead spouses to separate or divorce.

The process of divorce or separation can be an emotive one that needs to be handled sensitively and confidentially. It is important to retain a cordial relationship between the spouses especially where children are involved because there is a lifetime commitment at the parental level.

We ensure that our clients feel safe and well-represented in the process as we offer sound legal advice and representation. We engage our experience in counselling that we have acquired over the years when handling contentious divorce matters.

The issue of matrimonial property is a sensitive topic in any jurisdiction. We have over 20 years of experience in advising clients and representing them in matrimonial property disputes.

As family lawyers, we aim to promote peaceful dispute resolution through mediation and/or negotiations before litigation. We advise our clients on the distribution of matrimonial property upon dissolution of marriage. We also represent clients who seek to obtain necessary orders for the preservation of matrimonial property against disposition without consent.

We apply our expertise in negotiation and mediation to ensure that the matrimonial property is divided fairly between the spouses.

Our experience spanning over 20 years shows that children cope with separation and/or divorce where parents can work as a team.  With this understanding, we have come up with numerous principles that guide the parents in the co-parenting journey.

We guide our clients through the issues of legal custody, care and control, access and maintenance of the children. We promote the peaceful settlement of children’s matters by facilitating negotiation and/or mediation between the parties to come up with a Parental Responsibility Agreement (PRA) that is filed in Court.

Where parties are not able to agree amicably, we represent our clients in Court and present their cases professionally and soundly to promote the best interest of the children.

As defined by the Constitution, family is integral in our society. The governance of a family is therefore crucial and can be achieved through family constitutions. Family constitutions are especially necessary when there is a family business in place that outlives the founder.

We aim to help our clients to come up with a governance structure suited to the family. We help clients through the process of discussion for strategic planning and forecasting of the future of the family in a manner desirous of avoiding disagreements.
